Charleston's Dog Days of Summer
Sirius heat making you want to hide?
In 1963, Nat King Cole sang, "Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer..." Everyone knows that the "dog days of summer" refer to the hottest and muggiest, but where does the expression originate? According to Wikipedia, the Romans referred to the dog days as di's canicul's and associated the hot weather with the "Dog Star" Sirius in the constellation Canis Major. The original dog days when Sirius rose with the sun led the Romans to believe that the star itself was the cause of the hot, sultry weather (and also resulted in red dog sacrifices to appease Sirius--yikes!). While this phenomenon no longer occurs at the same time (due to the progression of the equinoxes), the forty or so sultriest days of July and August still bear the moniker and Sirius is still the brightest star in the night sky.

Charleston...it's for the dogs
According to the Post and Courier, Charleston has been named the best city (again) but this time it's for the doggone good time we show the dogs! Dog Fancy is barking our praises based on the number of dog-friendly business, events like Yappy Hour and Pups, Yups and Food Trucks, our rescue programs and all the places we can take our dogs. Charleston even has it's own dog show, and thanks to the Charleston Animal Society, is the first no-kill community in the southeast. Way to go, Charleston!
Pets and Real Estate
Have you heard about the new trend in homebuilding? News circulating this week highlighted the efforts of some developers to include "pet suites" in their building plans. According to Yahoo News, some homebuyers are interested in having a separate pet paradise in their homes that includes tiled wash and dry stations, bunk beds, and even flat-screen TVs. Too much? Well, we can never have too much love for pets or for real estate! Here are some of our favorite clients (pictured with their owners):
